Set: 920

Former Bedford-St Pancras Class 127 Driving cars now with roller shutter doors as M55966 + M55967. The unit was stabled at Croft Street Sidings adjacent to the Preston Power Box on March 2nd 1986. One of 11 similar units converted, Set 920 was finished in retro BR Green livery. The nearest car in this view had been turned-out in green for its last period of passenger service when allocated to Cricklewood Depot. The unit was adorned with a plaque commemorating "The First Unit, 1,250,000 miles, Bedford-St Pancras". Following replacement by new Class 317 EMU's, car M51591 was selected for the National Collection at York, but when BR were short of one car to complete the 11 Parcel Units, the NRM handed the car back for conversion. As a consolation the finished unit (920) was finished in BR Green. Martyn Hilbert.

The sidings and power box are situated on the site of the former Preston MPd that closed in 1961 following a roof fire in 1960. Dominating the skyline is St Walburges Church dating frpm 1854 and designed by Joseph Hansom of Hansom Cab fame, it has the tallest parish church spire in England at 309ft. Martyn Hilbert.

Complete with a discoloured white cab roof, two-car BRCW Class 104 DMU, formed of Driving Motor Brake Second M53431 & Driving Motor Lavatory Second M53512 was stabled between duties in Croft Street Sidings adjacent to Preston Power Box on May 3rd 1987. The well-worn unit was having an extended period of operation due to the sidelining of the then ailing almost new Class 142 Pacer fleet. The unit would become a spare set at Chester Depot in November 1989 due its poor condition until it was officially withdrawn in June 1990, as new Class 150/2 Sprinters began to appear in quantity from BREL York. Martyn Hilbert.
